Adam Bandt for Lord Mayor

Adam BandtAdam is an industrial and public interest lawyer who has lived and worked locally for the last decade. He currently lives in Parkville. Adam was The Greens’ candidate for Melbourne in the 2007 Federal Election.

Adam has been a partner at a major progressive national law firm, and has the skills and experience to effectively represent Melbourne residents and businesses.

Adam has the vision and energy to lead the Council in times of both climate and financial crisis.

He wants to make Melbourne Australia’s most sustainable capital, carbon neutral by 2020, and his vision is a Melbourne running on renewable energy where the Council helps you cut your energy bills by hundreds of dollars.

He wants to bring democracy and accountability back to Town Hall and end the current Council’s outrageous spending on State Government projects (like the $50m of your money given to the State Government’s convention centre).

Adam believes in massively expanding public transport in Melbourne and fighting the Eddington East-West road tunnel proposals.

While studying law, Adam was an active campaigner in the movements for free education and higher living allowances for students. He was president of his student union.

As well as working as a lawyer, Adam has just completed a PhD in law and politics at Monash University, examining the suspension of civil rights in Australia and the rest of the world.
