What matters to you?

We have some well developed policies for the upcoming elections. But we’d love to hear from you: what matters to you? What would you like to see Council do? Or stop doing?

This is an open thread - leave a post on any topic you’d like. Click on the picture or on the ‘Add Comment’ link above.

Over to you.

Why are there so many bins in the laneways in the CBD from so many different garbage companies, and so many trucks coming to collect them?

Why can’t businesses use the bins collectively instead of 3 or 4 bins each, have the council collect rubbish for everyone, and give Melbourne 3000 residents a sleep-in?

No reply needed, but thanks for listening!

    Thanks for your comment.

You’re spot on. The current system is privatisation gone mad. We have a policy to bring inner-city waste and recycling collection back under the Council umbrella. This would be funded by a charge on CBD commercial users, and reports prepared for Council suggest this would save businesses up to 70% of their current waste costs. It would also result in far fewer bins and trucks to disturb city users.
